China Commemorates 95th Anniversary of September 18 Incident

China commemorated the 95th anniversary of the September 18 Incident on Friday with memorial ceremonies honoring those who fought against Japanese aggression. Sirens sounded and a memorial bell tolled across northeast China, marking the anniversary of the event that China recognizes as the beginning of its war of resistance against Japanese aggression.

Hundreds of people, including veterans, their relatives and representatives from various sectors, gathered at the square of the 9.18 Historical Museum in Shenyang, capital of Liaoning Province. Participants paid tribute to those who fought and sacrificed their lives during the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.

At exactly 9:18 a.m., 14 representatives from different sectors struck a massive memorial bell 14 times, symbolizing the 14 years of struggle against Japanese invaders. The ceremony served as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by the Chinese people in defending their country.

The September 18 Incident of 1931 is remembered in China as the beginning of its resistance against Japanese aggression. This year’s commemoration highlighted the importance of preserving historical memory, honoring those who defended national sovereignty and passing the lessons of war and the value of peace to future generations.
