Foot-and-Mouth Disease Vaccination Campaign to Cover All Nine Local Governments in Bhojpur

A district-wide vaccination campaign against foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) will be launched in Bhojpur to control the disease and support its eventual elimination among cattle and buffaloes. According to the Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Service Expert Centre, Bhojpur, the campaign will run from Asoj 8 to Kartik 15 across all nine local governments in the district.

Pushpa Raj Dahal, chief of the centre, said 61,000 vaccine doses had been received for the campaign. Vaccinators will visit farmers’ livestock sheds to administer the vaccines, making the service more accessible to livestock owners. A total of 76 vaccinators have received one-day training in software-based vaccination record management and have been deployed to the local governments.

According to Dahal, the campaign aims to control foot-and-mouth disease, increase livestock productivity and protect farmers from economic losses. The centre emphasised that regular vaccination and timely treatment are essential to reducing the impact of animal diseases on livestock health and production.

The office plans to conduct a second round of vaccination after completing the initial campaign. Alongside vaccination, farmers will receive information about common livestock diseases, their symptoms, preventive measures and available treatments.

Many households in rural Bhojpur depend on livestock farming for their livelihoods. Noting that limited awareness of animal diseases and treatment has created difficulties for farmers, the centre expects the campaign to contribute to livestock protection, improved production and stronger farm incomes.
