Highland Pear Harvest Underway in China’s Songpan County, with Cultivation Covering More Than 56 Hectares

Farmers in Zhenjiangguan Town, Songpan County, southwest China’s Sichuan Province, are busy harvesting and marketing highland pears as the autumn harvest season reaches its peak. Fields have turned golden, fruit trees are laden with ripe produce, and local growers are collecting the results of months of agricultural work.

More than 850 mu of land in Zhenjiangguan Town is devoted to highland pear cultivation. Equivalent to approximately 56.7 hectares, the orchards have entered their main harvesting period, keeping growers occupied with picking, collecting and selling the fruit.

The town’s relatively high elevation, long hours of sunshine and significant temperature differences between day and night provide favourable conditions for fruit cultivation. Water from mountain snowmelt and the area’s relatively unpolluted natural environment also contribute to the characteristics of its agricultural produce.

Pears grown in the area are known for their smooth skin, firm flesh, attractive appearance and sweet, juicy flavour. These qualities have helped establish the fruit as a distinctive agricultural product of the highland region.

The seasonal harvest highlights the potential of agriculture adapted to mountainous environments. By making use of local climatic conditions and natural resources, growers in Zhenjiangguan are developing a recognisable agricultural product that supports rural livelihoods and contributes to the local economy.
