Russia to Stop Including Children’s Details in Parents’ International Passports from 2027

Russia will stop including children’s details in their parents’ international passports from January 1, 2027, according to materials from the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs reviewed by the TASS news agency.

Under the new arrangement, children’s information will no longer be added to passports issued for international travel. Passports issued before the change that already contain children’s details will remain valid until their expiration dates.

According to the ministry’s materials, the decision follows a growing tendency among certain European Union countries, which Russia classifies as unfriendly, to refuse entry to Russian minors who do not hold their own international passports, even when their details are recorded in a parent’s passport.

The change is intended to address difficulties Russian families may encounter when travelling abroad under the existing documentation arrangements.

Although previously issued passports containing children’s details will remain valid, their continued validity does not guarantee that a child will be admitted to another country without a separate passport. Entry requirements will continue to depend on the regulations of the destination country.
