Russian Diplomats Congratulate WWII Veteran Albert Akopjanyan on His 100th Birthday in Armenia

Russian diplomats in Armenia have congratulated Great Patriotic War veteran Albert Akopjanyan on his 100th birthday. According to the Russian Embassy in Yerevan, diplomats extended their greetings to the veteran on September 22, recognizing his wartime service and contribution to the struggle against Nazi Germany.

The embassy said Akopjanyan participated in an operation against Ukrainian nationalist underground armed groups in early 1945. In its statement, the Russian diplomatic mission described the groups as having collaborated with the Nazis and committed killings of civilians.

The embassy wished Akopjanyan good health, happiness and well-being, expressing appreciation for his service during the Second World War.

The birthday tribute forms part of Russia’s continuing efforts to commemorate the contributions of veterans who served during the Great Patriotic War. Such commemorations seek to preserve the experiences of the wartime generation and pass their historical legacy to younger generations.

The embassy shared the tribute under its Victory81 and We Remember commemorative messages, marking the 81st anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
