Putin and Turkmen President Discuss Strategic Partnership and Upcoming CIS Summit

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkmenistan’s President Serdar Berdimuhamedov held a telephone conversation on September 22, discussing bilateral strategic cooperation and preparations for an upcoming meeting of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), according to the Kremlin.

During the call, Putin extended birthday greetings to Berdimuhamedov. Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the current level of the Russia-Turkmenistan strategic partnership and reaffirmed their shared commitment to developing relations across all areas of mutual interest.

The presidents also exchanged views on preparations for the upcoming meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State, scheduled for early October. Berdimuhamedov is expected to chair the meeting.

Berd Berdimuhamedov, in turn, congratulated Putin on the conduct of elections to the State Duma, the lower house of Russia’s Federal Assembly.

The conversation reaffirmed the two countries’ intention to maintain close bilateral relations and continue coordination through regional multilateral institutions.
