Foreign Minister Khanal, UN Under-Secretary-General Khare Discuss Peacekeeping Cooperation

Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal met United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support Atul Khare in New York on Friday to discuss cooperation between Nepal and the UN on peacekeeping, according to Khanal’s secretariat. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

Khanal highlighted the longstanding contribution of Nepali military and security personnel to UN peacekeeping operations and reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to those efforts. The two also discussed operational and logistical matters affecting Nepali personnel serving in UN missions, as well as the support they require, the secretariat said.

Khare heads the UN Department of Operational Support, which provides operational and administrative support to UN missions and other entities. No new agreement or decision from the meeting was announced.
