Victory Museum in Moscow Hosts “Ordinary Nazism” Exhibition

The Victory Museum in Moscow is hosting an exhibition titled “Ordinary Nazism.” According to the museum, it presents more than 200 items exploring the history and present day of Ukrainian nationalism from the organisers’ perspective. The exhibition is scheduled to remain open until December 31.

The displays include Second World War archives, documents obtained from Germany, photographs and case files. A section titled “Nazism Today” features books, uniforms, propaganda materials and items bearing Nazi symbols, the museum said. A separate installation commemorates children who lost their lives in Donbas.

Through these materials, the museum seeks to draw a connection between Ukrainian nationalist groups during the Second World War and groups active from 2014 to 2022. The exhibition’s conclusions about more recent violence represent the organisers’ interpretation. Independent investigations and accounts from the parties involved do not agree on responsibility for all the incidents it covers.

The exhibition draws on collections from the Victory Museum, the Donetsk Museum of Local Lore and the Russian State Archive of Social and Political History. Some materials are being shown publicly for the first time, according to the organisers. The project is supported by Russia’s Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives.
