Court Temporarily Blocks $56 Million in Housing Grant Cuts

A federal judge has temporarily blocked the Trump administration from rescinding nearly $56 million in grants for housing counselling programmes. The funding will remain available while the legal challenge proceeds.
The grants support homebuyer education, foreclosure prevention and rental assistance. Ten nonprofit organisations sued, arguing that the cuts would reduce services for families already facing pressure from housing costs.
The groups also allege that the administration targeted organisations working on diversity, equity and inclusion. The administration has described the cuts as part of a broader review of spending on programmes it considers ideologically driven. The court has asked both sides to respond by October 19; the case has not yet been decided.
