International Coffee Day Celebrated in Rome and Sanaa

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations held the first formal observance of International Coffee Day in Rome, Italy, on October 1. The UN General Assembly designated October 1 as International Coffee Day on March 10, 2026.

The Coffee Tasting Experience in Rome featured coffee stands representing Brazil, Colombia, Ethiopia and Venezuela. Visitors sampled coffees from the participating countries, while staff prepared and served drinks. The Venezuelan stand also presented desserts made with coffee.

The occasion was also marked at the Haraz Coffee Center in Sanaa, the capital of Yemen. The event featured coffee preparation and service for guests, as well as a display of coffee plants. Visitors sampled different coffees.

Events in Rome and Sanaa offered an opportunity to showcase the variety of coffees, their production and the traditions associated with them.
