Armed Police Force (APF) Additional Inspector General Banshiraj Dahal has been suspended over allegations that he leaked sensitive security information and acted contrary to official conduct. The Home Ministry has formed a committee to investigate the matter and submit its findings within three days.
Home Ministry spokesperson Anand Raj Kafle said Dahal was suspended following a recommendation for action from APF headquarters. The ministry has not specified what information was allegedly leaked.
Kantipur, citing a senior APF officer, reported that Dahal was accused of visiting former Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana on Ashoj 11 without authorization. Police had taken Rana from his Maharajgunj residence to the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office in Teku at midnight, citing a security threat. Some senior APF officials have also said Dahal is related to Rana.
APF headquarters recommended last Wednesday that Dahal’s tenure be extended by one year. He was due to complete his four-year term and retire on Ashoj 27. If his tenure is not extended, he will retire as scheduled. The ministry is expected to consider further action after receiving the investigation committee’s report.
