Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has won the presidential runoff, securing a fourth term in office. Brazil’s electoral court said Lula received 51.79 percent of the vote, while his rival, Flávio Bolsonaro, received 48.21 percent. Lula’s new term will begin on January 5, 2027.

China congratulated Lula on his victory and said it was ready to work with Brazil to advance the building of a community with a shared future. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun made the remarks on Monday.

Chinese analyst Pan Deng said Lula’s reelection would help maintain stability and predictability in China-Brazil relations over the next four years. He said the political consensus reached during Lula’s 2023 visit to China, along with subsequent high-level exchanges, had strengthened mutual trust.

Trade between China and Brazil has also continued to grow. Official Brazilian data show that bilateral trade reached $143.3 billion from January to September 2026. Brazilian exports to China rose 12 percent to $84.68 billion during the period.

Analysts expect cooperation to expand under Lula in renewable energy, low-carbon development, the digital economy, artificial intelligence and aerospace. Brazil and China are also expected to continue coordinating through BRICS, the United Nations and the World Trade Organization, including on issues affecting developing countries.
