Lavrov: US Open to Expanding Dialogue with Russia; Europe Refused Contact Until Recently

The administration of US President Donald Trump supported developing and expanding dialogue with Russia from the outset, while Europe refused to engage with Moscow until recently, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.

Speaking at a meeting with editors-in-chief of African media outlets, Lavrov said that although the United States had supported Ukraine by supplying weapons to European countries and providing satellite intelligence, the Trump administration remained open to dialogue with Russia. He said Washington had publicly advocated deepening the dialogue and extending it to as many areas as possible.

“Europe, by contrast, categorically refused any contacts with Russia until literally the last moment,” Lavrov said.
