Iran Says It Has Designated UK’s Royal Navy and Air Force as Terrorist Organizations

Iran has designated the United Kingdom’s Royal Navy and Royal Air Force as terrorist organizations and classified its foreign intelligence service, MI6, as a hostile group, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said.

Under the ministry’s statement, MI6 falls within a provision of a law imposing stricter penalties for espionage and cooperation with Israel and hostile countries against Iran’s national security and interests. The ministry said the law’s provisions would apply to the agency from the date the statement was published.

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council adopted the measures in response to what Tehran described as hostile British actions over the past year. These included, Iran said, Britain’s role in the US-Israeli war against Iran by providing bases and facilities on its territory.

The Foreign Ministry also cited Britain’s July 13 decision to designate Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization under its 2026 State Threats Act.

Iran said the designation of the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force was made under a law on retaliatory measures following the US designation of the Guard Corps. The ministry said the British government would bear responsibility for any consequences.
