Manoj KC has been appointed Inspector General of Nepal Police by a Cabinet decision. Before his appointment, he headed the Crime Investigation Department at police headquarters.

KC and outgoing Inspector General Dan Bahadur Karki are from the same police batch. Both joined the service as inspectors in March 1998.

KC’s role in the investigation of the fake Bhutanese refugee case is considered a significant part of his police career. While serving at the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, he helped advance an investigation into a group accused of defrauding Nepalis by promising to send them to the United States as Bhutanese refugees. A team under his leadership arrested suspects Keshav Dulal, Tank Gurung and Sanu Bhandari on March 26, 2023.

The investigation later expanded under organised crime charges. Former Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand, former Deputy Prime Minister Top Bahadur Rayamajhi and then Home Secretary Tek Narayan Pandey were among those arrested. KC was a Senior Superintendent of Police at the time. A team led by him went to Khand’s residence to arrest the former minister.

On August 21, 2023, while the second phase of the investigation was under way, the then government removed KC from his assignment. On September 21, 2025, he was transferred from the Police Coordination Department to the Central Investigation Bureau. He later moved to the Crime Investigation Department at police headquarters.

After serving in several roles within the police organisation, KC has now taken its top post. The government removed Karki and appointed KC as police chief.
