Canton Fair Products Target Everyday Hassles

Dragon Media News Desk

Foreign buyers are showing interest in products designed to make everyday tasks easier at the 140th Canton Fair in Guangzhou. Manufacturers are presenting their goods as practical solutions to common inconveniences.

A European buyer tested a helmet-shaped laser device for hair growth at the booth of Hubei YJT Intelligent Technology Group. The company said he changed his return flight from Wednesday to Monday, cancelled plans to visit competing suppliers and signed a letter of intent to buy 2,000 units. The buyer was drawn to the possibility of receiving at home a treatment that would otherwise require a clinic visit, the company said.

A company representative told the Global Times that the booth had received more than 50 groups of prospective customers a day from North America, South America, Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Africa. The company said it would continue developing intelligent medical devices for consumers and use the fair to expand into international markets.

Another exhibitor demonstrated a smart litter box designed to simplify cat care. Yu Youkai, a manager at Guangzhou PawGether Pet Product Technology, said the litter pad could be removed with one pull and the roller drum washed with water. A mobile app can also track how often a cat uses the box and monitor changes in its weight. PawGether expects potential orders to reach several thousand units.

The fair’s third phase, themed “Better Life,” features more than 12,000 exhibitors across 25,000 booths. Foreign buyers have shown interest in smart healthcare, pet products, toys and sporting goods, the Global Times reported. The pet-products section includes 240 companies across 390 booths. Products on display include a grooming and vacuuming kit with attachments to remove pet hair from narrow spaces in furniture.

Travel goods also feature practical additions. One suitcase has a built-in dryer and clothes rail, allowing it to open into a small wardrobe. The design aims to address the problem of clothes staying damp during travel, while the case can also be used as a wardrobe at home. A Zhejiang-based exhibitor presented a portable washing machine small enough to fit in a backpack. The company’s sales manager said it heats ordinary tap water in one second.

A 3D printer displayed in the toy section is designed to reduce the need for moulds. An exhibitor said traditional mould-making can take two to three months, while the printer can help prepare a new product for market in three days.

Exhibitors told the Global Times that overseas buyers are looking beyond product features. They want to know which recurring task a product makes easier, whether it works reliably and whether it is affordable for everyday consumers. Manufacturers say they need to demonstrate that the convenience they promise is practical and dependable.

Exports of pet-related products declared through Ningbo Customs in Zhejiang Province reached 2.24 billion yuan, or about 337 million U.S. dollars, in the first half of 2026, up 21.7 percent from a year earlier, according to the Global Times. Pet-product exports from Cixi, also in Zhejiang, more than doubled during the first eight months of the year. The growth rate significantly outpaced that of traditional household appliances.
