Dragon Media News Desk

Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for the spirit of the Long March to be carried forward as the country advances on a new journey. He made the remarks at a gathering marking the 90th anniversary of the victory of the Long March by the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army.

At the gathering, held on October 22 at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Xi reviewed the historic march led by the Communist Party of China. He discussed the significance of its victory, the factors that enabled the Party and the People’s Army to press ahead, and the lasting value of the Long March spirit. He also set out the need to carry that spirit forward in the years ahead.

The Global Times and the overseas edition of the People’s Daily have published the 30th installment of their series, “Decoding Xi Jinping: The Governance of China,” exploring the theme of carrying forward the Long March spirit and advancing on a new journey. The installment features reflections from Chinese and international scholars, translators of the book, people with firsthand experience, and readers abroad.

The articles explore how China’s transformation has deepened readers’ understanding of the Long March spirit; how the story of “half a quilt” helps explain that spirit from the perspective of an Urdu translator; how Long March stories are being brought from the page into village life; and how the Long March helped establish a tradition of independence and self-reliance within the Communist Party of China.
