Minister Rawal Holds Talks with Chartered Accountants on Cooperative Reform, Seeks Input on Deposit Refund Modalities

KATHMANDU — Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation Pratibha Rawal has held discussions with chartered accountants on reforming the cooperative sector.
On Wednesday at the ministry, Minister Rawal held talks with officials of regulatory bodies for cooperatives as well as officials from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal (ICAN) regarding the irregularities, lack of transparency, and absence of financial discipline seen in cooperative institutions.
Stating that the role of chartered accountants is crucial in making the cooperative sector systematic, transparent, and trustworthy, Minister Rawal urged them to contribute to the reform efforts. She also requested their support in the ongoing plans aimed at resolving cooperative problems.
As the ministry is preparing to begin returning depositors’ funds in the near future, Minister Rawal also sought their input on the modalities for deposit repayment during the discussion.
Participants from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal, including Chairman Nil Bahadur Saru Magar and other members, stated that they are committed to addressing the challenges seen in the cooperative sector and expressed their readiness to provide necessary support to the ministry.
The discussion with Minister Rawal was also attended by officials including National Cooperative Regulatory Authority Chairman Khagaraj Sharma and Problematic Cooperative Management Committee Chairman Dilli Raj Acharya.
Representing the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal were Chairman Saru Magar along with members Anandaraj Sharma Wagle, Umeshraj Pandey, Aman Upreti, Hemkumar Kafle, Harikumar Silwal, Sunil Devkota, Piyush Anand, Bharatkumar Shrestha, Kalamanee Lamsal, Pradeepkumar Yadav, Executive Director Bimal Dangol, Director Kirankumar Khatri, and Assistant Director Asmita Dhakal.
