Chinese Garlic and Seeds Smuggled from Sarlahi Seized in India, Two Arrested

Sarlahi — Indian security forces have seized Chinese goods being smuggled into India through various border points in Sarlahi. A team of India’s Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) confiscated Chinese garlic and cucumber seeds that were being transported via the Sakhuawa and Sangrampur border crossings.
According to officials, the SSB team deployed at the Lalbandi checkpoint in Sitamarhi district, India, recovered a large quantity of goods from two Mahindra Bolero pickup trucks on Friday. The seized items included 67 sacks of Chinese garlic, weighing approximately 1,206 kilograms, and 3,724 kilograms of cucumber seeds.
Two individuals involved in the smuggling and the vehicles used have also been taken into custody. The seized goods and the detainees have been handed over to the Sonbarsa Customs Office in Sitamarhi for further action. The large-scale seizure indicates that illegal trade through the Sarlahi border crossings remains active. The district has long been known as a major transit route for smuggling.
