Third ‘Pema Golden Pen’ Event Held in Xizang, Digital Push for Script Preservation

Kathmandu — The third “Pema Golden Pen” calligraphy competition and exhibition has been held in China’s Xizang Autonomous Region to mark National Tibetan Calligraphy Day. Observed on April 30 (Wednesday), this year’s Tibetan Calligraphy Day featured an award ceremony, traditional script heritage rituals, and a focus on digital cultural innovation, with the event also being livestreamed.

The Tibetan script is an alphabetic system comprising 30 consonants and 4 vowels. Organised to promote the art of Tibetan calligraphy and the preservation of intangible cultural heritage, the event honoured winners of the calligraphy competition and unveiled new calligraphy designs. Organisers said special emphasis was placed on preserving traditional script and presenting it in new ways through digital technology.
