Full Moon Festival Halts Imports at Hilsa Border for Five Days, Travel Unrestricted

Hilsa. The import of goods through the northern Hilsa border point, which connects Nepal to China, has been completely halted. The suspension is due to a festival holiday in Taklakot of China’s Purang County on the occasion of Baisakh Purnima.

According to Armed Police Force Deputy Superintendent Krishna Dahal of the Border Security Post in Hilsa, imports from Taklakot have been fully suspended from Saturday through Wednesday, a period of five days. “Due to the festival celebrations during the full moon and the resulting holiday, a complete ban has been placed on goods exports from the other side,” he informed.

However, no restrictions have been imposed on the movement of people. Nevertheless, those crossing the border are not permitted to bring any goods with them. Imports from Taklakot are expected to resume from Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Yari Customs Office has collected Rs 14,000 in revenue in just the first five days of its operation, according to Office Chief Ramraj Jaisi.
