Fake Refugee Case: Court Orders Extraction of Evidence File Against Three Dozen Accused

Kathmandu. The Kathmandu District Court has ordered the extraction of the evidence file in the fake Bhutanese refugee case against 30 individuals, including former Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand and former Deputy Prime Minister Top Bahadur Rayamajhi.

A bench presided over by Judge Khimanand Bhusal, while hearing the case on Tuesday, directed that the evidence file be produced for the purpose of final adjudication. The accused face charges of forgery, fraud, organised crime and offences against the state, with allegations that they played a role in forming an organised racket to pass off Nepali citizens as Bhutanese refugees.

Among the accused are Congress leader Khand, UML leader Rayamajhi, then Home Secretary Tek Narayan Pandey, former lawmaker Angtawa Sherpa, and Indrajit Rai, the security advisor to then Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, along with Keshav Dulal, his wife Deepa Humagain, Sanu Bhandari and Sandesh Sharma. The court has now moved forward with the process for final hearing in this high-profile case.
