Russian Lawmaker Proposes Bill to Allow Police Personnel to Receive Pension While Continuing Service

Moscow. Senior Russian lawmaker and leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR), Leonid Slutsky, has proposed a bill to grant employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (police) the right to continue serving while simultaneously receiving both their pension and salary. The draft bill has been obtained by Russian news agency TASS.
The proposed legislation seeks to make a provision allowing employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs who have already become eligible for a long-service pension to receive both their pension and salary without having to retire from service.
Speaking to TASS, Slutsky stated that the internal affairs bodies are currently facing a serious shortage of personnel. “The ministry’s system is today facing a serious personnel deficit,” he said. “This bill is necessary to halt the outflow of experienced employees and preserve their expertise.”
According to Slutsky, under the current legal provisions, employees who are eligible for a pension but wish to continue their service have their pension suspended. He said this encourages experienced personnel to take retirement and has led to a decline in institutional capacity. The proposed bill is expected to rectify this situation.
