Russia and Tajikistan Reaffirm Strategic Partnership and Shared Historical Memory

Moscow. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Mukhriddin in Moscow during Mukhriddin’s official visit to Russia.
During the meeting held on May 18, the two foreign ministers discussed various aspects of bilateral relations between Russia and Tajikistan.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries. They also discussed practical steps to implement agreements reached by the presidents of Russia and Tajikistan.
On the same day, a commemorative ceremony was held at Donskoye Cemetery in Moscow, where capsules containing soil from a mass grave of prominent Tajik national figures, Nusratullo Makhsum, Shirinsho Shotemur and Nisor Muhammad, were formally handed over to the Tajik side.
Tajik Foreign Minister Mukhriddin attended the ceremony along with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin and Mikhail Shvydkoy, Special Presidential Envoy for International Cultural Cooperation. The capsules were officially handed over to Mukhriddin and the Tajik delegation.
A parallel commemorative event was also held in Kulob, Khatlon Region, Tajikistan. During the ceremony, a capsule containing soil from the grave of Soviet military commander and Civil War hero Nikolai Tomin was transferred to the Russian side.
The event in Kulob was attended by representatives of the Russian Embassy in Tajikistan, officials from the administration of Kurtamysh Municipal District in Russia’s Kurgan Region, the birthplace of Nikolai Tomin, as well as representatives of the Kulob authorities, the 201st Russian Military Base, and local veterans’ and public organizations.
According to the Russian side, the commemorative ceremonies reaffirmed the shared commitment of both countries to preserving historical memory and truth. The events were also described as a symbol of the longstanding friendship and cultural ties between the Russian and Tajik peoples.
Russia and Tajikistan maintain a strategic partnership based on security, diplomacy, cultural cooperation and historical ties. The latest meeting and commemorative exchanges are being viewed as symbolic and diplomatic steps toward further deepening bilateral relations.
