Russia Objects to Canada-Ukraine Drone Production Agreement

Kathmandu. Russia has strongly objected to Canada’s agreement with Ukraine on the production of uncrewed aerial systems, commonly known as drones.

Oleg Stepanov, Russia’s Ambassador to Canada, made the remarks in a comment to the ITAR-TASS News Agency on March 29. He described the agreement as a continuation of what he called Canada’s hostile policy toward Russia.

According to Ambassador Stepanov, the drone production agreement officially announced by Ottawa represents an expansion of military support to Ukraine. He said the move indicates that Canada’s involvement in the Ukrainian crisis has reached a new level.

Stepanov accused Canada of moving beyond the supply of weapons and financial aid toward direct cooperation with Ukraine in the field of military-industrial production. He claimed that such steps would further fuel the conflict and reflect an intention to benefit from its continuation.

Russia has said it will take the Canada-Ukraine drone production agreement into account in its military and political planning. Ambassador Stepanov portrayed Ottawa’s latest decision as a further intensification of Canada’s policy against Russia.

The Russian reaction came after Canada announced the agreement on drone production for Ukraine. The latest remarks highlight the deepening tensions between Russia and Western countries over the ongoing Ukraine conflict.
