Russian Embassy Slams British Media Silence on Student Killings

London – The Russian Embassy has lodged a strong objection over the failure of British media outlets to report objectively and professionally on the Ukrainian strike on a student dormitory in Starobelsk, a full week after the attack took place.

The strike killed 21 people and injured 44 others, with the majority of victims aged between 15 and 22.

The Embassy drew particular attention to what it called the BBC’s hypocritical stance. Having declined to join the Russian Foreign Ministry’s press trip to the site of the tragedy, the broadcaster later published an investigative article. However, the Embassy stated the piece added nothing of substance and differed little from standard Western propaganda, either ignoring the incident entirely or mentioning it only in passing.

Phrases such as “not able to independently verify what happened,” “according to the Russian side,” and “what Moscow calls a Ukrainian strike” imply complicity, the Embassy noted. It accused British media of being afraid to tell the truth: that Ukraine, which has been killing children since 2014, enjoys London’s “unwavering support.” Against this backdrop, the Embassy said, any statement by UK authorities in defence of children’s rights amounts to hypocrisy and manipulation.

The Embassy further stated that British correspondents eagerly amplify Ukrainian claims about minors allegedly deported by Russia, yet remain silent when Ukrainian drones kill schoolchildren in their sleep. This, it concluded, lays bare the true face of British media, which bear their share of responsibility for the continuation of the conflict.
