India Win SAFF Women’s Championship Title After Seven Years

Goa. India have won the SAFF Women’s Championship title after a seven-year wait. In the final match held on Saturday at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa, India defeated Bangladesh 3–1 to lift the trophy.
Pyari Xaxa, Sanfida Nongrum and Lynda Kom scored one goal each for India. Starting the match on an attacking note, India made effective use of their chances and kept Bangladesh under pressure throughout the game.
Ritu Chakma pulled one goal back for Bangladesh, but it was not enough to save her team from defeat. Although Bangladesh put up a fighting performance in the final, they were unable to stop India’s strong attacking display and organised team play.
With this victory, India have lifted the SAFF Women’s Championship title again after seven years. The Indian team, which performed impressively throughout the tournament, maintained its rhythm in the final and re-established its dominance in South Asian women’s football.
Bangladesh came close to the title but had to settle for the runner-up position after losing to India in the final. India’s victory has further strengthened their comeback in South Asian women’s football.
