Five Arrested in Nepalgunj Over Alleged Fake Medical Reports for Driving Licences

Nepalgunj — Police have arrested five people, including two doctors, from Nepalgunj on charges of irregularities in medical testing required for driving licences.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Pratit Singh Rathaur of the District Police Office, Banke, the arrests were made at the Transport Management Office in Nepalgunj after the suspects were found allegedly violating the official medical examination process required for obtaining or renewing driving licences.
Under the rules, applicants for driving licences must undergo a medical examination by an authorized medical professional and receive a proper medical report. However, police said the arrested individuals were allegedly issuing fitness certificates without conducting regular health checks, charging Rs 200 per person.
Police deployed a team from the District Police Office after receiving information that such certificates were being distributed in exchange for money without proper medical examination. The suspects were taken into custody after monitoring and on-site observation found irregularities, police said.
Police have not disclosed the names of the arrested doctors and other individuals, citing the ongoing investigation. Initial findings suggest that they violated procedures related to the mandatory health examination required for issuing and renewing driving licences.
Medical testing for driving licences is directly linked to road safety. Issuing fitness certificates without checking eyesight, physical condition, general health and driving fitness could increase the risk of road accidents, police said.
The arrested individuals have been kept under investigation for further legal action. Police said they are also investigating whether more people were involved in the case.
