Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky submitted bills to parliament on Monday proposing a further 90-day extension of martial law and general mobilisation as the conflict with Russia continues.

Both measures are currently due to expire on August 2. If approved by parliament, martial law and general mobilisation will remain in force for another 90 days.

Ukrainian lawmaker Yaroslav Zheleznyak said voting on the bills is expected to take place on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Ukraine first imposed martial law and declared general mobilisation in February 2022 after the conflict with Russia intensified. Since then, both measures have been repeatedly extended for 90-day periods.

Meanwhile, Russia and Ukraine have continued to claim attacks on each other’s military, energy and transport infrastructure using drones and other weapons.

The Russian Defence Ministry said its forces carried out overnight strikes against Ukrainian military-related infrastructure and fuel, energy and transport facilities. It also claimed that Russian forces intercepted 12 guided aerial bombs and 926 fixed-wing drones. The claims have not been independently verified.

Russia’s Federal Security Service said it had thwarted a large-scale Ukrainian drone operation targeting military airfields. Moscow authorities also reported that air-defence systems neutralised hundreds of Ukrainian drones approaching the capital.

Ukraine, for its part, said its drones struck more than 10 Russian military, logistics and energy facilities in Crimea and nearby Russian territory overnight.

According to the Ukrainian side, the targets included fuel storage facilities, radar stations and port infrastructure.

Ukraine has intensified drone attacks on Russian oil, maritime and energy facilities, while Russia has continued strikes against Ukrainian military and energy infrastructure.

The full extent of the damage reported by both sides has not been independently confirmed.
