Prime Minister Shah Leaves Parliament After 20 Minutes Amid Border Remarks Controversy

Prime Minister Balendra Shah left Parliament after remaining in the chamber for about 20 minutes on Tuesday, marking his first appearance in the House since making controversial remarks concerning Nepal’s border with India.
Shah and Rastriya Swatantra Party Chairman Rabi Lamichhane entered the chamber together shortly after the parliamentary session had begun. While the prime minister departed after a brief stay, Lamichhane remained in the House.
Shah left without addressing the controversy surrounding his remarks. Opposition lawmakers have accused the prime minister of repeatedly disregarding Parliament and failing to respond to questions raised by its members.
During a question-and-answer session on Jestha 17, Shah addressed Parliament for the first time as prime minister and suggested that Nepal had also encroached upon Indian territory.
The statement has drawn widespread criticism. Opposition parties have staged continuous protests in Parliament since Jestha 17, demanding that the prime minister correct his remarks.
The opposition has maintained that Shah must appear before Parliament and personally clarify his statement. Instead, the prime minister had Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal offer an explanation on his behalf.
Opposition parties have rejected the explanation provided through Khanal, insisting that Shah himself must return to Parliament and correct the statement he made from the House.
Although the prime minister arrived considerably after Tuesday’s session had begun, he left without making any statement. His departure after approximately 20 minutes has raised further questions about his accountability to Parliament.
