Dragon Media News Desk

An Air India flight bound for New Delhi was halted at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu after a passenger allegedly caused a disturbance and assaulted a flight attendant.

According to airport sources, the incident occurred aboard Air India flight AI-220, which was scheduled to depart at 5:30 pm on Thursday.

The passenger reportedly attempted to use the toilet while the aircraft was preparing for takeoff. When a flight attendant explained that the toilet could not be used during the critical stage of departure, the passenger allegedly began arguing with the cabin crew.

Airport sources claimed that the passenger also physically assaulted the flight attendant during the confrontation.

Following the incident, the pilot aborted the takeoff procedure and returned the aircraft to the parking bay after it had already begun taxiing toward the runway.

The passenger was removed from the aircraft and handed over to airport security personnel. Authorities were reportedly preparing to take the passenger into custody and initiate the necessary legal process.

After the passenger was removed, preparations were made for the aircraft to depart with the remaining passengers.

Live flight information showed that AI-220, originally scheduled to leave Kathmandu at 5:30 pm, was delayed until 6:50 pm.

Air India, the Tribhuvan International Airport administration and the airport security office had not issued formal statements regarding the incident at the time of reporting.

The passenger’s identity, nationality and the specific charges that may be filed have also not yet been officially disclosed.
