Russia Ready to Support Peaceful Settlement of US–Iran and Iran–Arab Differences

Russia has said it is ready to assist in the peaceful resolution of differences between the United States and Iran, as well as between Iran and Arab countries.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Alimov told the Russian newspaper Izvestia that Moscow could help promote dialogue and diplomatic solutions among the parties concerned.

“We are ready to facilitate a peaceful settlement of differences both between the United States and Iran and between the Iranians and the Arabs,” Alimov said.

He also indicated that Russia was prepared to provide a venue for Arab–Iranian dialogue, while making clear that Moscow would not impose its mediation on any party.

According to Alimov, Russia remains in close contact with all sides involved in the dispute. He said Moscow was also coordinating with Islamabad, Riyadh and Ankara.

Russia has repeatedly called for an end to further escalation in the Persian Gulf region, an immediate cessation of hostilities and the pursuit of political and diplomatic solutions.

Moscow has also stressed the need to respect the sovereignty and security concerns of Arab countries and has urged an end to attacks affecting civilians and civilian infrastructure.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has previously expressed concern over what it described as attempts to deepen divisions between Iran and its Arab neighbours amid the wider regional conflict.

Alimov’s latest remarks indicate that Moscow is seeking a diplomatic role in both easing US–Iran tensions and rebuilding confidence between Iran and Arab states.
