Lavrov Presents Russian Foreign Ministry Certificate of Merit to Senior Officers of ‘Veterans’ Brigade

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with representatives of the command of the “Veterans” Reconnaissance and Assault Brigade of the Volunteer Corps under the Russian Ministry of Defence and presented senior officers of the unit with a Certificate of Merit from the Foreign Ministry.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the meeting took place at the ministry in Moscow on August 21. During a formal ceremony, Lavrov handed over the certificate addressed to the soldiers and commanders of the brigade.

In his remarks, Lavrov said the Russian military was playing a central role in defending the country’s security and sovereignty under the current international circumstances. He accused Western countries of attempting to impose their will on Russia and seeking its strategic defeat.

Lavrov described Russian soldiers and officers as examples of dedication, courage, professionalism and determination. The Foreign Ministry presented the certificate as recognition of the “Veterans” Brigade’s military performance and what Moscow described as its significant contribution to national security.

According to the ministry, Lavrov said the military’s contribution to national security also helps strengthen the foundation for Russia to pursue what it describes as an independent and sovereign foreign policy.

His remarks reflected Moscow’s broader portrayal of the war in Ukraine not simply as a military conflict, but as part of a wider strategic confrontation between Russia and Western countries.

Representatives of the brigade thanked Lavrov for what they described as his continued personal attention to issues affecting soldiers serving on the front lines. Russia officially refers to its ongoing military campaign in Ukraine as a “special military operation.”

During the meeting, representatives of the brigade presented Lavrov with their unit’s flag as a gesture of appreciation.

The ceremony also highlighted the Russian government’s continuing effort to publicly connect the role of military units involved in the Ukraine conflict with the country’s broader national security and foreign policy objectives.
