Russian National Flag Day Art Workshop Held in Kathmandu

The Russian House in Kathmandu organized a creative art workshop to mark Russian National Flag Day, which is observed annually on August 22.

Held on Friday ahead of the official observance, the workshop brought together 16 students from South Western College in Samakhusi, Kathmandu.

The programme introduced participants to the history and significance of the Russian national flag, as well as the symbolic meaning associated with its white, blue and red colours. Students then created artworks inspired by the Russian flag and different aspects of Russian culture.

The workshop was led by Russian House Art Director Shyam Sundar Yadav, who guided the students in developing their artistic works while also explaining the relationship between art, national symbols and cultural identity.

According to the Russian House, the aim of the programme was to connect culture, creativity and education rather than limit the celebration to a formal observance. The organizers said the activity was also intended to help Nepali youth learn more about Russian culture and society through art.

Russia observes August 22 as National Flag Day. The country’s white, blue and red horizontal tricolour is one of its principal national symbols.

The Kathmandu workshop represented a small but meaningful cultural and educational exchange between Nepal and Russia, giving participating students an opportunity to explore another country’s national identity, culture and history through creative expression.
