Russia and South Sudan Mark 15 Years of Diplomatic Relations

Russia and South Sudan have marked the 15th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, with the foreign ministers of both countries exchanging greetings and reaffirming their commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and South Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation James Pitia Morgan exchanged congratulatory messages on August 22 to mark the anniversary.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the two ministers noted the traditionally friendly nature of relations between Russia and South Sudan, saying bilateral ties are based on the principles of mutual respect and consideration for each other’s interests.

Lavrov and Morgan also reaffirmed Moscow and Juba’s commitment to deepening political dialogue and expanding practical cooperation across various fields.

Russia and South Sudan established diplomatic relations following South Sudan’s independence. In recent years, the two countries have continued discussions on strengthening political contacts and exploring opportunities for broader economic, humanitarian and other forms of cooperation.

The exchange of greetings on the 15th anniversary reaffirmed the willingness of both sides to maintain political engagement and identify new areas for bilateral cooperation.g
