China-Poland AI Cooperation Shows Growing Potential Across Healthcare, Robotics and Research

As artificial intelligence moves rapidly from laboratories into factories, hospitals and classrooms, new opportunities are emerging for deeper scientific and technological cooperation between China and Poland.

Polish experts see strong potential in combining China’s mature industrial ecosystem and broad application market with Poland’s strengths in mathematics, engineering and basic research. Healthcare, climate services, education, robotics and industrial applications are among the areas identified for expanded cooperation.

Katarzyna Kaniewska, an official with the Foreign Cooperation Office of the Polish Chamber of Commerce, said both China and Poland face pressure from population aging and declining birth rates. AI, she said, could help healthcare systems by handling some routine examinations, laboratory procedures and administrative tasks, allowing medical professionals to devote more time to work that requires human judgment.

AI could also support climate monitoring and early-warning systems, while serving as an auxiliary tool for teachers and students.

Roman Szewczyk, director of the Systems Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences, stressed that basic research should remain central to China-Poland AI cooperation. His institute has already trained doctoral students from China, and he said future collaboration should move beyond personnel exchanges toward joint fundamental research.

Cezary Blaszczyk, director of the Department of International Cooperation at Poland’s National Centre for Research and Development, said researchers from both countries have demonstrated a strong willingness to cooperate and that the potential for bilateral AI collaboration is substantial. He added that companies generally approach such cooperation from a practical perspective, focusing on technological strengths, product competitiveness and market demand.

Krzysztof Pyrc, president of the Foundation for Polish Science, said the potential of research cooperation with China remains underestimated by some scientists abroad. Stronger links among universities, research institutes, funding bodies and enterprises could help turn complementary strengths into concrete scientific and commercial results.

Robotics is seen as one of the most promising areas for cooperation. Combining AI algorithms, sensors, control systems, mechatronics and manufacturing expertise could create opportunities in industrial automation, healthcare and elderly-care services.

The same cooperation model could also be applied in healthcare, climate services and education. Joint research followed by local testing and adaptation could make AI tools more accessible to Polish small and medium-sized enterprises, helping them improve efficiency, control costs and develop new products and services.

Experts believe China-Poland AI cooperation could gain broader economic and social significance if scientific research is effectively connected with commercial applications. By combining industrial-scale implementation with strong basic research, the two countries could build a more practical foundation for cooperation in AI, robotics and other emerging technologies.
