Sudden Flood from China Hits Bhotekoshi River, Major Damage Feared in Timure, Syafrubesi and Hydropower Areas

A sudden flood in the Bhotekoshi River originating from the Chinese side is feared to have caused major damage in several parts of Rasuwa. A full assessment of the losses is still awaited, according to Assistant Chief District Officer Dhruva Prasad Adhikari.

Preliminary information suggests that the flood has affected the Timure customs area, Syafrubesi, nearby settlements and several hydropower facilities. Local authorities fear that additional damage may have occurred because of the sudden rise and strong flow of the river.

According to Adhikari, initial reports indicate significant damage around Timure and Syafrubesi in Gosaikunda Rural Municipality, as well as in hydropower areas along the Bhotekoshi corridor. However, a complete picture of the situation has yet to emerge.

He said teams from the local administration and security agencies were heading toward the affected areas and that the actual extent of the damage would become clearer after on-site assessments.

Authorities have also issued alerts to downstream areas because of the potential flood risk. The Rasuwa administration has informed districts including Nuwakot and Dhading, as well as other areas located along the downstream river corridor.

Residents living near the river have been urged to remain in safe locations and avoid approaching the riverbanks. Authorities said the river flow and possible further risks are being closely monitored.
