Dmitriev Links German Protest Violence to Europe’s Russian Gas Policy

Dragon Media News Desk

Kirill Dmitriev, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s special envoy for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries, has claimed that the European Union’s move away from Russian gas has driven up energy prices, weakened industry and contributed to riots. He shared his views on social media alongside a report about protests in Germany over the cost of living turning violent.

Dmitriev, who also heads the Russian Direct Investment Fund, additionally blamed migration policies and what he described as EU officials’ refusal to correct their mistakes for the protests and looting.

Demonstrations took place in several German cities over the cost of living, education and public spending, as well as plans related to compulsory military service. Most were peaceful, but violence and shop looting were reported in some cities, including Frankfurt.

Protesters’ demands included concerns about living costs, education and public spending. Dmitriev’s claim that the policy of moving away from Russian gas directly caused the unrest is his political assessment; the available reports do not independently establish that link.
