Champions League Opens with Thrilling Wins for Real Madrid and Manchester City

The new UEFA Champions League season began with a series of exciting matches, as Real Madrid, Manchester City, Aston Villa, Borussia Dortmund, Real Betis and AEK Athens all opened their league-phase campaigns with victories.

In the most high-profile match, Real Madrid defeated Inter Milan 2-1 to secure an important three points. Kylian Mbappé and Fede Valverde scored for Madrid, while Carlos Augusto pulled one back for Inter. Real held on to claim victory at home.

Manchester City made a strong start with a 2-0 win over Porto. Erling Haaland was the decisive figure, scoring both goals in the second half to lead City to a comfortable victory.

Aston Villa beat Club Brugge 3-2, with John McGinn, Emi Buendía and Nicolas Jackson finding the net. Borussia Dortmund also earned a 3-2 victory, overcoming Villarreal in another closely contested match.

Real Betis came from behind twice to defeat Lille 3-2, while AEK Athens secured a 1-0 win over LASK to collect all three points from their opening fixture.

With the first night of matches completed, six more games are scheduled for tonight. Barcelona will face Feyenoord, while Stuttgart take on Viking.

Liverpool will meet Atletico Madrid, defending champions Paris Saint-Germain will face Slovan Bratislava, Sporting CP will play Galatasaray, and Napoli will take on Arsenal.

Particular attention will be on the Liverpool-Atletico Madrid and Napoli-Arsenal encounters, while Barcelona and PSG will also be aiming to begin their Champions League campaigns with victories.
