Lavrov Congratulates DPRK on Founding Anniversary, Hails Growing Russia-DPRK Strategic Partnership

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has congratulated Choe Son-hui, Foreign Minister of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, on the 78th anniversary of the founding of the DPRK, highlighting the continued strengthening of strategic partnership between the two countries.

In a message sent on September 9, Lavrov said the DPRK was steadily advancing along the path of strengthening its sovereignty and improving the well-being of its people. He expressed satisfaction with the achievements made by what he described as Russia’s Korean friends.

Lavrov also noted the strong momentum in the development of multifaceted and comprehensive cooperation and strategic partnership between Russia and the DPRK.

According to him, the current development of bilateral relations is fully in line with the agreements reached by Russian President Vladimir Putin and DPRK State Affairs President Kim Jong-un in June 2024.

Lavrov expressed confidence that productive joint work between the foreign ministries of Russia and the DPRK would contribute to implementing the tasks set by the two countries’ leaders.

He said the implementation of those agreements fully serves the interests of the peoples of both countries. It also contributes to their shared goals of building a just multipolar world and maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia.

The Russian Foreign Minister also wished Choe Son-hui and all employees of the DPRK Foreign Ministry good health and continued success in their work.

Relations between Russia and the DPRK have expanded significantly in recent years across political, diplomatic, economic, security and defence fields. The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty signed during Putin’s visit to Pyongyang in June 2024 has become a key framework for the current phase of bilateral relations.
