Xi Jinping Extends Teachers’ Day Greetings, Calls for Building China into a Leading Education Nation

Chinese President Xi Jinping has extended greetings to teachers and educators across the country on the occasion of Teachers’ Day, celebrated annually in China on September 10.

Xi, also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, called on teachers nationwide to further strengthen their professional competence and capabilities.

In his congratulatory message, Xi emphasized the responsibility of educators to nurture a new generation of young people capable of shouldering the historic mission of national rejuvenation.

Xi praised teachers across China for their long-standing dedication to education, saying they have devoted themselves to imparting knowledge, nurturing young minds and contributing significantly to the development of the Party and the country.

He stressed that fostering virtue through education should remain a fundamental task and called for maintaining high standards of professional integrity, ethics and conduct among educators.

Xi also called for greater public respect for teachers, stronger support for education and coordinated efforts across society to advance the goal of making China a leading country in education.

China has the world’s largest education system, with approximately 440,000 schools of different levels and types. Around 280 million students are enrolled nationwide, supported by about 18.7 million teachers.

China has increasingly placed education, science and technology, and talent development at the center of its national modernization and long-term development strategy.

Xi’s Teachers’ Day message further underscores the importance Beijing attaches to improving the quality of education while strengthening teachers’ professional capabilities, social standing and role in cultivating future generations.
