Following the completion of Vishwakarma Puja, devotees immersed an idol of Lord Vishwakarma in the Bagmati River at Chobhar, Kathmandu, today. The idol was taken to the river and ceremonially immersed after the conclusion of religious rituals and prayers.

Lord Vishwakarma is traditionally revered as the divine patron of craftsmanship, construction, engineering, technology and tools. Vishwakarma Puja is observed with particular significance by people associated with industries, factories, construction, transportation, workshops and technical professions. Machinery, vehicles, equipment, tools and workplaces are cleaned and worshipped on the occasion, with prayers for safety, prosperity and professional success.

Special security arrangements were put in place at Chobhar during this year’s immersion ceremony. Personnel from the Armed Police Force and Nepal Police were deployed around the riverbank to prevent devotees from drowning or encountering other accidents while entering the water for the immersion. Security personnel maintained surveillance at sensitive points and assisted devotees in carrying out the ceremony safely.

The presence of devotees created a distinctly religious and cultural atmosphere along the Bagmati River at Chobhar. After completing the annual worship, participants offered their final prayers before immersing the idol, marking the formal conclusion of this year’s Vishwakarma Puja celebrations.

Vishwakarma Puja remains an important religious and cultural tradition in Nepal, particularly among workers, technicians, artisans, drivers, engineers and people associated with industrial and construction sectors. Beyond its religious significance, the occasion also reflects respect for labour, craftsmanship, tools and the skills that sustain everyday economic and productive life.
