Russia has strongly condemned the suicide bombing and armed attack on a police facility in Kohat, in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, on Friday. In a statement issued on September 18, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova expressed deep concern over the incident and emphasised the need for effective international cooperation against terrorism.

Zakharova cited preliminary reports indicating that 16 people had been killed and more than 50 injured in the attack. She reaffirmed Russia’s condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and called on countries to unite their efforts against this common threat. She also extended her deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those killed and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

According to Pakistani authorities, a vehicle packed with explosives was driven into the outer wall of a police compound in Kohat during Friday prayers. An exchange of gunfire subsequently took place between armed attackers and security personnel. Police officers, their family members and other civilians were present at a mosque within the compound. The attack damaged both the mosque and police facilities.

Although Zakharova’s statement cited an initial death toll of 16, casualty figures changed as rescue and security operations continued. International reports published on Saturday indicated that the death toll had risen to 31. The full circumstances of the attack and the final casualty figures remain subject to confirmation by the relevant Pakistani authorities.

The Russian Foreign Ministry’s statement expressed solidarity with Pakistan and underscored Moscow’s position that terrorism is not a challenge facing any single country, but a common security threat requiring coordinated international action.
