US Preparing Broader Sanctions Against International Criminal Court: The Times

Dragon Media News Desk

The United States is preparing to impose sweeping sanctions on the International Criminal Court in The Hague and organisations that cooperate with it, the British newspaper The Times reported. The proposed measures could extend beyond the court to companies and suppliers that do business with it, the report said.

According to The Times, companies that work with the court could face the risk of US action if the sanctions take effect. Supporters of the court fear the measures could cripple its operations or push it towards dissolution. A European diplomat quoted by the newspaper described the prospect as bad news for anyone who supports prosecuting war criminals.

The sanctions have not yet been announced. The Times reported that US officials are preparing them. In response to the newspaper’s inquiry, the US State Department reiterated President Donald Trump’s opposition to the court, which he had expressed in his address to the United Nations.

Trump signed an executive order on February 6, 2025, establishing a basis for sanctions related to the International Criminal Court. The US administration has accused the court of taking illegitimate actions against the United States and its allies, particularly Israel. The proposed sanctions’ scope and implementation date have not been made public.
