Russia Opens Front Against Western Media at the United Nations

New York: Russia has called a special meeting at the United Nations Security Council to debate the information dimension of the Ukraine crisis. The meeting, scheduled for February 20 at 10:00 AM New York time (6:00 PM Moscow time), is being organized informally under the “Arria Formula.”
The Russian Permanent Mission has stated that the meeting, titled “Information dimension of the Ukrainian crisis: how media coverage of events affects the course of the conflict,” will focus on the allegation that Western and Ukrainian media have created a false perception of the Ukraine crisis.
Among the speakers scheduled to participate in the meeting are Norwegian political scientist and professor Glenn Diesen, and Italian journalist and war correspondent Andrea Lucidi. Diesen is an expert in geopolitics, international relations, and Eurasian integration, and is also the author of the book “The Ukraine Conflict and the Eurasian World Order.” Lucidi is known for his reporting and commentary on Russia-West relations and the Ukraine crisis.
Regarding the objectives of the meeting, the statement issued by the Russian mission said, “During this event, we will review the role played by Western and Ukrainian media in creating a false perception of the Ukraine crisis. We will also analyze how biased coverage of key stages of the conflict has influenced public opinion, distorted the understanding of the roots of the crisis, and limited the possibilities of resolving it through diplomatic means.”
Russia has put forward the notion that shedding light on the conflict in Ukraine in an objective and balanced manner could help develop an objective understanding of its root causes and help restore dialogue.
It has been announced that the meeting will be broadcast live via the Telegram channel of the Russian mission, which holds the presidency of the UN Security Council. Analysts suggest this move indicates Russia’s attempt to present its side on the international stage in the information war surrounding the Ukraine conflict.
