Prachanda Emphasizes ‘Historical Necessity’ of Left Unity

KATHMANDU — Issuing a press release on Wednesday on the occasion of the 77th founding day of the Nepali Communist Party, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, coordinator of the CPN (Unified Socialist), has emphasized unity among leftist and communist forces.

In the press release, Prachanda stated, “As long as discrimination exists in society, the relevance of the communist party will remain.” He noted that in the current global context, as imperialism becomes increasingly aggressive and fascist in its direction against national independence and the people’s right to self-determination, the teachings and ideals of the great Lenin have become even more relevant.

“Under these circumstances, while advancing the Nepali revolution, unity among all leftist and communist forces carrying the goals of socialism and communism to end all forms of discrimination and build an equitable society has become a historical necessity today,” Prachanda said.

Prachanda’s statement comes at a time when Nepal’s communist movement remains divided into various factions and splinters. Although there is government cooperation between the CPN-UML and the CPN (Maoist Centre), internal friction persists. Prachanda’s latest call for ‘left unity’ signals the possibility of a new equation among communist forces in the near future.
