‘What Even the Panchayat Did Not Do, This Government Has Done’: Revolutionary Communist Party Accuses Government of ‘Fascism’ Over Squatter Eviction

Kathmandu — Amid widespread criticism of the government’s move to clear squatter settlements, the Mohan Vaidya-led Revolutionary Communist Party has also reacted strongly.
Party leader CP Gajurel stated that even the Panchayat rulers had not dared to forcibly remove the landless, and described the current government’s actions as heading towards fascism. He expressed outrage, saying that actions such as bulldozing squatter settlements and banning student organizations were not even seen during the Panchayat regime.
“The situation has changed. The government is implementing fascism. It has not even been a month since the government was formed, and today we hear that bulldozers will be deployed to remove the squatters,” Gajurel said. “Now this is the use of fascism. Deciding that students cannot form organizations — that is fascism. Even under the Panchayat system, that was not the case.”
Recalling that even during the Panchayat era when political parties were banned, students were allowed to organize, he remarked that the current government appears even more autocratic. “Even under the partyless system, students could contest elections and had other rights,” he said. “This government has not granted even the rights that the Panchayat did.”
Gajurel has also called upon all revolutionary and patriotic forces to cooperate in order to save the nation from crisis.
