‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ Storms Box Office with 233 Million Dollar Global Debut

Los Angeles. Nearly two decades after the original, the much-anticipated sequel ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ has made a thunderous start at the worldwide box office. The 20th Century Studios film led ticket sales at the North American box office with an estimated three-day cume of 77 million US dollars in its opening weekend, data from measurement firm Comscore showed on Sunday.

The comedy drama added another 156.6 million dollars internationally, pushing its global debut total to 233.6 million dollars.

The sequel to the 2006 film reunites the original main cast with director David Frankel. Almost 20 years after their iconic performances as Miranda, Andy, Emily, and Nigel, Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci return to the fashionable streets of New York City and the sleek offices of Runway magazine in the film.

‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ has received an approval rating of 77 percent based on 226 reviews to date on review-aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes. It earned an “A-” on an “A+” to “F” scale from audiences polled by market research firm CinemaScore.

Lionsgate’s Michael Jackson biopic ‘Michael’ slipped to second place in its second weekend, earning 54 million dollars. The film has grossed 183.8 million dollars in North America and 423.9 million dollars worldwide.

Rounding out the top three, Universal and Illumination’s animated adventure ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ generated 12.1 million dollars in its fifth weekend for a domestic total of 402.7 million dollars.
