SVR Claims Ukraine Preparing New Attacks Against Russia

Moscow. Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service, known as the SVR, has claimed that the Ukrainian leadership and military command are preparing new attacks targeting various Russian regions.

According to a statement released by the SVR Press Bureau, the Ukrainian leadership is seeking to demonstrate to its European ideological and financial backers that the Ukrainian army still retains combat capability and is able to cause damage to the Russian economy. The SVR said this is the reason why Ukraine’s military command is allegedly planning a new series of strikes against Russian regions.

The Russian intelligence service claimed that Kyiv does not intend to limit itself to the air corridors made available to the Ukrainian Armed Forces by the Baltic states. According to the SVR, drones are also planned to be launched from the territories of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. The alleged aim is to reduce flight time to targets and increase the effectiveness of the attacks.

The SVR further claimed that, despite Latvia’s concerns about a possible retaliatory response from Moscow, Kyiv had persuaded Riga to consent to the operation. According to the Russian statement, the Ukrainian side argued that it would be difficult to determine the exact launch sites of the drones.

The Press Bureau also alleged that Ukrainian servicemen specializing in unmanned systems had already been sent to Latvia. According to the SVR, they have been deployed at military facilities in Ādaži, Sēlija, Lielvārde, Daugavpils and Jēkabpils.

Russia said modern reconnaissance and investigation capabilities make it possible to identify the coordinates of drone launch sites. It also stated that examination of drone debris could provide further evidence related to launches.

The SVR claimed that Russia is aware of the locations of decision-making centers on Latvian territory and warned that NATO membership would not protect those involved in such activities.

The statement did not include any response from Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia or NATO regarding the allegations.
