Cycling Around Duobu Lake Promotes Fitness and Tourism in Nyingchi

Lhasa — A cycling and mountain bike event was held in Nyingchi City of Xizang Autonomous Region, combining outdoor fitness, natural scenery and rural tourism promotion.

The event took place on June 12 in Gengzhang Monba Ethnic Township of Bayi District, Nyingchi City. Held under the theme “Ride to Nyingchi, Gather in Peach Valley,” the programme featured a fitness cycling ride around Duobu Lake and a government–enterprise friendly mountain bike competition.

The route started from Gengzhang Bridge and covered a total distance of 17.07 kilometres around the lake. The course connected the beautiful scenery of the Nyang River with six villages along the route, allowing participants to experience both the natural landscape and rural life of the area.

Cyclists rode through mountain paths, forested areas, village roads and lakeside sections. Wearing helmets and cycling gear, participants travelled in groups along the scenic route, turning the activity into both a sporting event and a visual journey through Nyingchi’s green mountains and river valleys.

Nyingchi is known for its lush forests, river landscapes, highland scenery and peach blossoms. By combining sport with tourism, the event aimed to promote healthy lifestyles while showcasing the region’s natural beauty and local cultural identity.

Organisers said the ride was not only a competition, but also a public fitness activity that encouraged outdoor exercise, eco-friendly travel and appreciation of local landscapes. The route around the lake gave participants an opportunity to exercise in a natural environment while enjoying the scenery of the Nyang River area.

The event also reflected growing efforts in Xizang to link sports, rural revitalisation and tourism. By bringing together local villages, natural attractions and cycling activities, the programme is expected to help promote rural tourism and support local economic activity.

With government and enterprise participation, the cycling event also helped strengthen community interaction and encourage wider public interest in outdoor sports. The Duobu Lake ride presented Nyingchi’s mountains, rivers, villages and ethnic township culture as part of a broader effort to develop tourism through sports.
